One of our most popular, this bike and boat tour in Holland during tulip season, featuring the north and south provinces, is bursting with colors and scents.
When the Dutch spring dawns, millions of eager bulbs rise, stretch toward the sun, and blossom for the occasion. Acres upon endless acres of exquisite tulips transform ordinary fields into a colorful kaleidoscope. Having been grown in the Netherlands for more than 400 years, 1200 different varieties of these flowers are now harvested!
Did you know that during the 17th century, tulips became so highly prized that prices were sent soaring and markets crashing? This was known as Tulip Mania. Today, though Wall Street is unaware, Tulip Mania prevails.

  Day 1: Amsterdam - Spaarndam | Spaarndam - Haarlem, 3 or 8 mi. (6 or 14 km)
  Boarding takes place between 1:30 and 2 pm. It is possible to bring your luggage on board earlier at 11 am but your cabin will not be ready for check-in. It is important to be on time as the boat leaves the harbor at 2:30 pm. During this first short sailing, you can enjoy coffee, tea, or another beverage, while being introduced to the crew, the boat, and the program ahead. While the barge sails to Haarlem, your tour leader will tell you about the tour, the cycling and safety. From Spaarndam you have the option to do a little test ride. After dinner on board, the tour leader will take you on a town walk through the beautiful city centre of Haarlem.
  Day 2: Haarlem - Keukenhof - Leiden, 23 mi. (38 km)
  Today’s trip leads you through the oldest tulip fields of Holland, including a visit of the Keukenhof gardens. This is the most beautiful bulb park in the world. Keukenhof is the place where spring breaks. An overwhelming blaze of colors; seven million flowering tulips in a magnificent 80-acres’ background of traditional and modern gardening architecture. You also can admire the various hyacinths, daffodils and many other colorful flowers. In the afternoon you cycle to the city of Leiden. Dinner on board and after that you can join the walk through town.
  
  Day 3: Leiden - Gouda, 22 or 26 mi. (37 or 43 km)
  After breakfast you will cycle out of Leiden. You will travel through the ‘green heart’ of Holland. Near Zoeterwoude, you will visit a cheese farm where you will learn about the cheese-making process and you will have the opportunity to taste the results. In the afternoon you reach Gouda, famous for the Gouda cheese. Gouda has an attractive compact center with her pretty market square and Gothic town hall. The main church of Gouda, devoted to Saint John, is world famous for its stained glass windows. After dinner you can join the walk through town.
  Day 4: Gouda - Alphen a/d Rijn | Alpehn a/d Rijn - Kudelstaart, 12 or 27 mi. (20 or 44 km)
  We stay in Gouda this morning. You have the opportunity to do some shopping and to visit the market square with its cheese weigh house or you can visit the St. Johns church. We leave by barge around noon and have a light lunch on board. From Alphen aan den Rijn you cycle through the ‘green heart’ of South Holland via river Drecht and Amstel-Drecht channel to Kudelstaart.
  Day 5: Kudelstaart - Flower auction | Aalsmeer - Amsterdam | Amsterdam - Zaanse Schans, 19 or 25 mi. (32 or 41 km)
  At 6.30 a.m. you can drink an early cup of coffee. After that you cycle to the flower auction of Aalsmeer, the largest of Europe. Here, huge quantities of flowers are trucked in and sold every day, after which they are distributed all over Europe. After your visit you return on board (around 9 a.m.) for a late breakfast while the barge sails to Amsterdam. You will enjoy a nice cruise, right through the city.
  Today’s cycling tour takes you from Amsterdam to Zaanse Schans, a unique hamlet where people live and work, with original houses and windmills from the river Zaan area. The hamlet is dominated by operating windmills, the oldest built in 1673, for grinding mustard, spices, paint and oil and for sawing wood into planks. As you walk through the village you will see a clock museum, an old-fashioned grocery store, a house with period furniture, a clog maker and a cheese farm.
  Day 6: Zaanse Schans - Alkmaar, 24 mi. (40 km)
  This morning you cycle to the Hortus Bulborum, a unique garden museum dedicated to the preservation of rare and historic bulbs. More than 4,000 tulips, daffodils, hyacinths and other flowers are planted here. Your cycling tour continues to Egmond at the Northsea. The tour goes through the dunes to Alkmaar. This town is known as a Dutch cheese city. As you wander through the streets you’ll be amazed by the beauty of Alkmaar’s Old Town, with its well-preserved 17th century buildings and narrow, winding canals. Dinner in town at your own account.
  Day 7: Alkmaar - Amsterdam, 22 or 33 mi. (37 or 54 km)
  After breakfast, your cycling tour leads you to the former windmill complex of the Schermer Polder. Here we visit the Schermerhorn Windmill Museum. Your next stop is the beautiful town of De Rijp. Centuries of history are still evident here in De Rijp’s wooden facades, beautiful church, lock, and town hall. From here, your ride continues back to Amsterdam. In the late afternoon or evening, there is time for a canal tour through the famous canals of the city.

  Day 1: Arrival aboard the Iris.  Amsterdam - Utrecht
  The crew of the Iris welcomes you onboard at approximately 1 pm. The boat departs Amsterdam and after getting settled into your room, there is a tour briefing about the ship and the day's ride. You have the option to begin cycling in the town of Breukelen to Utrecht or stay on the boat which crosses around over the Lek, an arm of the Rhine.
  Day 2:  Utrecht - Gouda
  Your day starts with a ride to the most beautifully built, Castle De Haar, in the Netherlands where local guides will welcome you. After this visit, you will cycle to Oudewater, a medieval town with a "Heksenwaag", scales used to determine whether a woman could be a witch by measuring her weight! Oudewater was the only town in all of Europe to receive the privilege of an honest weighing process from Emperor Charles V. Because of this special dispensation, no one was ever condemned as a witch here. The day's destination is Gouda, a beautiful historic city. From The Markt, the central square with its iconic town hall to the beautiful stained-glass windows of the Sint-Jans church and from street food to the first Fairtrade street in the Netherlands, old and new meet and merge in Gouda where the most exported kind of cheese the Netherland produces originated. So yes, you will find many cheese shops here, and also stroopwafels!
  Day 3: Gouda - Leiden
  Today is a great ride through the agricultural green heart of Holland. Although the bigger cities are within close proximity, this region remains protected and serves as a great green area with grazing cows and ducks, and willow trees. Your first stop will be at a cheese farm for a tasting and educational tour.
  Day 4: Leiden - Haarlem
  Today needs no introduction. The Keukenhof! Made up of 79 acres of garden with approximately 7 million flowers. While the Keukenhof is mostly known for its tulips, there are also Hyacinths, daffodils, lilies, roses, carnations, and irises. Before and after your visit to the Keukenhof, your ride will also lead right through the flower-growing fields. After this highlight, you will be docked in Haarlem, a lovely town also known as "Little Amsterdam".
  Day 5: Haarlem - Alkmaar
  From Haarlem, you will cycle through the nature reserve area behind the dunes of the North Sea on wonderful cycling paths! You will enjoy lunch at the beach. You then follow the paths and ride a bit more inland to the private garden Hortus Bulborum, the world’s most important bulb garden, preserving some 4000 varieties of heirloom flower bulbs, most of which have gone “commercially extinct.” To wander through its amazing diversity in bloom time is an unforgettable experience. Take a tour with the local volunteers who are, and they should be, very proud of their unique work.
  Day 6: Alkmaar - Zaanse Schans
  The first stop of the day is in the historic Schermer with its polder windmills, one of the greatest projects of the Dutch to reclaim land from the water. For 3 years the Scher Lake (Schermeer) was pumped out with he help of 52 polder mills and in 1635 the lake disappeared completely. Your lunch stop will be in De Rijp, another lovely little village, on the way to the Zaanse Schans, an open-air museum that welcomes many tourists during the daytime. It is a replica of how a living and working community in the Zaan district looked back in the mid 19th century at the start of the industrial revolution. You can enjoy this, and even better, walk through it after all tourists have left! It is a magical place, so tranquil at that time.
  Day 7: Zaanse Schans - Amsterdam
  You can cut it short or have a longer ride. Your choice! The short option will arrive in Amsterdam at lunchtime, and you can then spend the afternoon on your own!

  Get ready to pedal through the oldest tulip fields of Holland, including a visit to the infamous Keukenhof gardens! This is the most beautiful flower garden in the world, an overwhelming blaze of colors as seven million flowering tulips rise up in a magnificent background of traditional and modern gardening architecture. It is here that Spring begins. Hyacinths, narcissus, and many other flowers dazzle as well. After being saturated with color and scent, the cycling continues ending in the historic city of Leiden, who unabashedly boasts of its own beauty and charm. In the evening, there will be an opportunity to experience this enchanting place for yourself, strolling along the canals and alleyways, viewing the historical buildings, and, like Rembrandt himself, be inspired by its beauty.

  The day begins with a sailing breakfast! Imagine enjoying your morning coffee as the stunning Dutch scenery passes by! The cycling itinerary begins and leads through the ‘green heart’ of Holland. Near Zoeterwoude, you will visit the cheese farm to learn about the cheese-making process and of course, to sample the wares! Holland is not just famous for its Tulips as you will come to know! In the afternoon, you reach Gouda, famous for the Gouda cheese. If truth be told, Gouda ("How-da" as the locals say) is one of the most popular cheeses in the world, accounting for 50 to 60 percent of the world's cheese consumption, The market square here is lovely with its Gothic town hall and St John Cathedral, famous the world over, whose stain glass windows flood the interior with a diffused light and impress with understated elegance.
  Day 4: Gouda - Alphen a/d Rijn | Alpehn a/d Rijn - Kudelstaart, 12 or 27 mi. (27 or 44 km)
  This morning, you stay in Gouda and will have the opportunity to do some shopping and to visit the market square with its cheese weigh house or you can visit the St. John's church. Once back on board the barge, you take off at noon enjoying a light lunch on board. From Alphen aan den Rijn, you bike through the green hear of South Holland via the Drecht River and the Amstel-Drecht channel to Kudelstaart.
  Day 5: Kudelstaart - Flower auction | Aalsmeer - Amsterdam | Amsterdam - Zaanse Schans - Purmerand, 5 mi. + additional 14 mi. (9 + 23 km)
  Today begins early! Coffee is served at 7 am and then at 7:15, you cycle to the flower auction of Aalsmeer, the largest of Europe. Here huge quantities of flowers are trucked in and sold every day, after which they are distributed all over Europe. Back on board, you will enjoy a late breakfast and then another cycling itinerary takes you through the ‘Amsterdamse Bos’, west of Amsterdam to Zaanse Schans, a unique hamlet where people live and work, with original houses and windmills from the Zaan River area.   Day 1: Amsterdam - Kudelstaart | Ouderkerk - Uithoorn, 9 mi. (15 km)
  When you board the ship before 2:00 pm, you can put your luggage in your cabin and enjoy a relaxing cup of coffee or tea. Become acquainted with your tour guide, the skipper and ship crew, and your fellow travellers. You will first sail from Amsterdam on the river Amstel to Ouderkerk. In Ouderkerk, you'll cycle through the polder Ronde Hoep to Uithoorn. Dinner is aboard the ship, and you'll have a meeting about the week plan and itinerary.
  Day 2: Kudelstaart - Gouda, 28 mi. (45 km)
  From Uithoorn, you'll cycle along rural roads, along the river banks and channels. You'll be cycling through the "Green Heart of Holland" to Gouda, the city known for—you guessed it—Gouda cheese! In Gouda, be sure to try the cheese and "stroopwafels" (treacle-waffle). See the pipes, famous pottery, and the beautiful stained glass windows. Visit the charming town hall and the atmospheric canals! Gouda is a historic city, with a mostly intact center, so, after dinner, we recommend strolling through its winding streets.
  Day 3: Gouda - Albasserdam, ferry to Rotterdam and sailing to Delft, 25 mi. (40 km)
  Leaving Gouda, you'll bike by scenic polders via Kinderdijk to Rotterdam. Kinderdijk has the largest group of windmills in the Netherlands—used until the 1950's, though the water level in the polder is now controlled by a large pumping station. After your visit to the windmills, you will take a ferry to Rotterdam, from which you'll take your ship to Delft. Delft is known for its pottery, the "Delft blue", and the Prisenhof Museum—formerly St Agatha's monastery. This convent was chosen in 1572 by William of Orange as one of his residences. It was from here that he lead the revolt against Spanish tyranny in Holland, and here that he was murdered on July 10, 1584 by a Spanish sympathizer, Balthazar Gerards. Two bullet holes in the wall of the stairs remain as evidence of this event.
  Day 4: Delft - Katwijk - Leiden, 23 mi. (36 km)
  From Delft, you'll embark towards The Hague through "het Haagse Bosch", a large park. You'll pass the former Royal Palace of "Huis ten Bosch". If you choose to extend your tour, you will cycle on peaceful paths through the dunes to Wassenaarse Slag, where you can see the remains of the Atlantikwall. You can see five bunkers here, connected by about 3,000-feet-long brick tunnels. These tunnels now serve as a bat reserve. This extended route continues through the dunes to Katwijk aan Zee, an old fishing village with its own dialect of Dutch called "Kattuks"! Following the Oude Rijn (Old Rhine), you'll bike to Leiden where the ship is moored. You can visit any of the 14 museums here!
  Day 5: Leiden - visit to Keukenhof by public transport
  You have the chance to visit the Keukenhof gardens today. These gardens are regarded as the most beautiful spring park in the world as the Keukenhof is where spring breaks. The various gardens and gardening styles can be found here, including the English Landscape Garden, the Historical Garden, the Natural Garden, the Formal Garden, and three special colors gardens! There are about 80 sculptures from famous Dutch artists and several other art objects— such as the collection "Surprising Tulips"—spread throughout this park.
  Day 6: Leiden - via flower bulb fields - Haarlem, 24 mi. (37 km)
  As you leave Leiden for Haarlem, take in the scenery of the gorgeous flower beds. From March to May, these bulb fields are in bloom, beginning with daffodils, then hyacinths, tulips, and, finally, lilies! Upon arrival in Haarlem, you'll take a short tour through the city to see some historic "hofjes" (almshouses) that now often house elderly people. Haarlem is a bustling city with great shopping opportunity! Your ship will stay in the city center overnight, with a splendid view of St Bavo's Church, along with access to the Grote Markt and its many outdoor cafés!
  Day 7: Haarlem - Amsterdam, 25 mi. (40 km)
  The day will begin with a cruise to Spaarndam. Spaarndam is a lovely village on the edge of Haarlem, whose name comes from the dam built in the Spaarne River to limit the risk of flooding from the sea. Here, you'll find a statue of Hansje Brinker, a character from an American novel that saved the country from flooding by putting his finger in the dike. From Spaarndam, the Buitenhuizen ferry will carry you across the North Sea Canal, from which you'll bike to the Zaanse Schans. The Zaanse Schans has traditional weatherboard houses, warehouses, and windmills that will make you feel as though you stepped back into the 17th or 18th century into this lively neighborhood. Visit the cheese farm, a clog-maker, or the old bakery while you're here!

  The day begins with a sailing breakfast! Imagine enjoying your morning coffee as the stunning Dutch scenery passes by! The cycling itinerary begins and leads through the ‘green heart’ of Holland. Near Zoeterwoude, you will visit the cheese farm to learn about the cheese-making process and of course, to sample the wares! Holland is not just famous for its Tulips as you will come to know! In the afternoon, you reach Gouda, famous for the Gouda cheese. If truth be told, Gouda ("How-da" as the locals say) is one of the most popular cheeses in the world, accounting for 50 to 60 percent of the world's cheese consumption, The market square here is lovely with its Gothic town hall and Saint John Cathedral, famous the world over, whose stain glass windows flood the interior with a diffused light and impress with understated elegance.
  Day 4: Gouda - Alphen a/d Rijn | Alpehn a/d Rijn - Kudelstaart, 12 or 27 mi. (20 or 44 km)
  This morning, you stay in Gouda and will have the opportunity to do some shopping and to visit the market square with its cheese weigh house or you can visit the St. John's church. Once back on board the barge, you take off at noon enjoying a light lunch on board. From Alphen aan den Rijn, you bike through the green hear of South Holland via the Drecht River and the Amstel-Drecht channel to Kudelstaart.
  Day 5: Kudelstaart - Flower auction | Aalsmeer - Amsterdam | Amsterdam - Zaanse Schans, 19 or 25 mi. (32 or 41 km)
  Today begins early! Coffee is served at 7 am and then at 7:15, you cycle to the flower auction of Aalsmeer, the largest of Europe. Here huge quantities of flowers are trucked in and sold every day, after which they are distributed all over Europe. Back on board, you will enjoy a late breakfast and then another cycling itinerary takes you through the ‘Amsterdamse Bos’, west of Amsterdam to Zaanse Schans, a unique hamlet where people live and work, with original houses and windmills from the Zaan River area. The hamlet is dominated by fully operating windmills, the oldest built in 1673, for grinding mustard, spices, paint, and oil and for sawing wood into planks. As you walk through the village you will see a clock museum, an old-fashioned grocery store, a house with period furniture, a clog maker, and a cheese farm and get a sense of early history in Holland.
  Day 6: Zaanse Schans - Alkmaar, 18 or 24 mi. (29 or 40 km)
  First on the agenda is the beautiful town of De Rijp. Centuries of history are still evident here in the wooden facades, beautiful church, and town hall. From here, your ride continues across the Beemster Polder, an almost untouched open polder landscape, after which, you visit the former windmill complex of the Schermer Polder and the  Schermerhorn Windmill Museum. Then it is off to Alkmaar, known as a Dutch cheese city. As you wander through the streets you'll be amazed by the beauty of Alkmaar's Old Town, with its well-preserved 17th-century buildings and narrow, winding canals! Dinner this evening will be on your own!
  Day 7: Alkmaar - Amsterdam, 22 or 33 mi. (37 or 54 km)
  Once again, this morning, you will enjoy your breakfast as the boat cruises the Dutch canals, followed by Hortus Bulborum, a unique garden museum dedicated to the preservation of rare and historic bulbs. More than 4,000 tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, and other flowers are planted here. As the cycling continues, you pedal through the unique Waterland back to Amsterdam. In the late afternoon or evening, there is time for a canal tour through the famous canals of the city.

  All distances in italics are covered by ship. The tours on the Sarah will be accompanied by one tour guide. During days when two distances are possible, he/she will make a choice to guide the longer or the shorter option after consultation of the group. Not all mentioned highlights will be visited during the short bike option.
  Day 1: Amsterdam - Spaardnam | Spaarndam - Haarlem, 3 or 8 mi. (6 or 14 km)
  Boarding takes place between 1 and 2 pm. It is possible to bring your luggage on board earlier at 11 am but your cabin will not be ready for check-in. It is important to be on time as the boat leaves the harbor at 2:00 pm. During this first short sailing, you can enjoy coffee, tea or another beverage, while being introduced to the crew, the boat and the program ahead. Upon arrival in Haarlem, there is an opportunity to test your bike and to have necessary adjustments made to ensure a comfortable ride throughout the week! Dinner will be served at 6:30 pm this evening and each evening and on most nights, a town walk will be offered by your guide.
  Day 2: Haarlem - Keukenhof - Leiden, 23 mi. (38 km)
  Get ready to pedal through the oldest tulip fields of Holland, including a visit to the infamous Keukenhof gardens! This is the most beautiful flower garden in the world, an overwhelming blaze of colors as seven million flowering tulips rise up in a magnificent background of traditional and modern gardening architecture. It is here that Spring begins. Hyacinths, narcissus, and many other flowers dazzle as well. After being saturated with color and scent, the cycling continues ending in the historic city of Leiden, who unabashedly boasts of its own beauty and charm. The closest international airport to your tour start is Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS).
Local Travel
From AMS airport, it is just a short train ride to Amsterdam Central Train Station, close to the center where the ships are moored. Depending on your boat, sometimes the mooring location is within walking distance, or only a short taxi ride away. In your final travel information, we will also provide details regarding public transportation is necessary.
Climate
Please note: Tulip season in Holland extends from the end of March to the beginning of May but is dependent on temperatures and the weather. We cannot predict the weather (we wish we could) so we cannot predict when the peak season will be! Please check local conditions prior to arrival. Holland is near or below sea level and experiences a Maritime climate influenced by the North Sea and the Atlantic Ocean and has the perfect climate and soil for the Tulips. The Dutch have a saying “April doet wat hij wil”. It means that April does whatever it wishes to do. Keep this in mind as you pack for your cycling holiday. Though cooler in April, the sun does shine on average 177 hours. Don’t forget your layers and your rain gear!

You can enhance your experience by downloading the Ride With GPS app for free on your mobile phone which will then serve as your cycling navigation device and bike route mapping tool, in addition to traditional printed route notes and maps. After installing the app, you can download the tour maps and daily itineraries directly to your smartphone. The app provides voice navigation for all the routes and allows you to access your tour content anytime, even offline. About four weeks before your cycling vacation, you will receive a code in your final tour information that will grant you access to your specific tour.

Before you travel, please check your passport expiration and the passport and visa requirements of the country/countries you plan to visit. Tulips. Would have been good to have had more time with tulips than an afternoon at Keukenoff. Maybe a visit to a tulip processor, or other gardens. After all, this was the "tulip" tour and we really only had one day of tulips.
You should alert your clients to the possibility of cold and rainy weather. Our guides did a good job of working around it, and I did have clothing to protect me, but it is an issue. Next to last day, we got into Zaandam too late to adequately visit the nearby attractions. Should have gotten there about two hours earlier.
Other than that, I think that all of the staff did an excellent job. Great food from Ellen; guides provided information and leadership. Boat was clean, spacious and comfortable.

The trip was fantastic. It was often windy and the ebikes were helpful because different fitness levels could stay at the same pace. The rooms were small so pack light. You will need less than you think. I would do a trip like this again.

Biking through tulip fields and passing the canals. Suggestions…. Could use more hooks on the wall in our cabin to hang items when on the barge. It would have been great if our guide had a bit more knowledge about the history of the area.

Lifelong bucket list desire and was able to ride thru fields of Tulip Farms. The crew on the Barge was truly first class (food, hospitality, and cleanliness). The two guys were knowledgeable of the region (Thomas and Rikko). Always willing to help. Suggestions: separate bike groups by e-bike and non/pedal bikes. The pace was often difficult when mixing the two into relax and very relax. Pace sometime was pushed thru very windy conditions. Also, bottle cages on bikes would be helpful. Lastly, a few of the stops/villages were 'closed' by the time we reached at the end of the tour day. This was disappointing such as Altmaar. It is lovely to walk around a bit after all day cycling. The guides were open to more frequent stops of shorter duration. When pedaling a non ebike, it is often challenges to start riding after a long break. Overall, we would recommend to tour to others and look forward to joining another adventure/journey in the future.

The beauty of the countryside! The Fleur barge was very nice with ample space, the staff was warm and welcoming. Steffie was an amazing chef, absolutely delicious food. Our bike guides were fun, cautious with our safety and brought us to many interesting locations.

The tulips were of course the highlight of the trip. Not really much time in most of the towns to do a lot of exploration.
I would recommend getting an ebike even though terrain is level the strong winds make for harder biking than anticipated.

Cycling past tulip fields and visiting Keukenhof Gardens will leave a colourful memory for us, fulfilling a long awaited bucket list item. The barge and bikes were in excellent condition. The staff were lovely, going out of there way to be helpful. All meals were delicious, although in an effort to minimise waste, quantities were sometimes on the small side. Rides were enjoyable, although the wind made some feel longer than reality. The guides had excellent cornering and sweeping systems, which added to the fun and safety of the rides. We were fortunately prepared for variable weather, every day needing a different concoction of clothing. A thoroughly enjoyable week.

Overall, the trip was wonderful...I never had a huge desire to visit The Netherlands but we were invited to do this tour with friends and it was great. Having done the trip now, bicycling is by far the best way to see The Netherlands. We cycled through and visited smaller towns I would have probably never gone to or stopped at if I was driving a car. They were beautiful, each with something unique and different. The Dutch are very kind people.

Cycling through the Netherlands was wonderful! The tulips were spectacular, whether in gardens, fields, or pots along the route. Our local guides were friendly and genuine. The Magnifique I was spacious in the common areas and the crew helpful in every way. An ebike is great for battling the headwinds.

All of it!!! Loved bicycling through the beautiful countryside with the never ending flowers, water, green fields full of fowl of all kinds, beautiful historical homes and buildings, delicious food, windmills, cheese markets and the personal friendliness of the attentive and informative crew of the Zwaantje. Honestly, these people made us feel so welcome and were so accommodating to our needs. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will return again to visit.

My highlights were the tulip fields, Keukenhof, the flower auction, and the functioning windmill. I also loved the camaraderie with staff and fellow travellers.
Some improvements:
The rating was easy but I think that pertains to the flatness of the path. biking between 30-65 kms per day wasn't easy with the wind conditions. Some clarification might be useful.
Also, some of the times and plans for the day were fluid and sometimes confusing. Still liked it an awful lot though.

When I read reviews of trips from former guests…I am always a little cautious about the use of hyperboles. However, I have to say that my expectations were far exceeded on this tour and it was thanks to the ship La Mar, the crew, Captain Marnik and especially the tour guides Michiel, Mijntje and Anne. They all worked amazingly well to create the best tour I have been on! I ended up selecting a comfort class level because that was what fit my timeline and availability but I have to say it was delightful and lacked nothing (Marnik your renovation looks great!). Cycling through the countryside and stopping in small towns and farms gives you a very different perspective of what a people and a country are about…and this trip delivered that…I have a new and wonderful impression of the Netherlands and all the wonderful people who live there. Thanks for an amazing adventure!!

Biking through the Netherlands was an unforgettable experience, particularly during the tulip season. The lush green farms, cows mooing, sheep bleating, birds singing and the people were so friendly. The sights we saw were incredible. Quo Vadis did not disappoint! The captain and crew aim to please and they did. Our tour guides were amazing. All set the bar high! The food was great, our rooms were small but cozy and very comfortable and the common area was relaxing. I highly recommend this trip! We can't wait for another trip!

The room on the boat was clean with enough room to get around, the shower had a lip to contain the water and there were hooks and a closet for clothing. The group size of
23 was good to get to know everyone. The cycling in Netherlands was amazing - there were special bicycle lanes everywhere and the scenery was beautiful. We paid extra for special diets and unlike on other bike and barge trips, this one was worth it!

Absolutely beautiful scenery-the best way to see this charming country is on a bike. The bike paths are very well maintained. I would suggest considering an e-bike. I did the first 4 days on a regular bike and this was fine. But after a day of rain and headwinds, I tried an e-bike-it was awesome! Our guides were great (Alice, Wolter and Timothy), were helpful, personable and really helped make the trip the incredible experience that it was. The food was fabulous-thanks to our amazing chef, Jules. Loved Reik (not sure of spelling of her name). Entire crew was great!

The barge and staff were fantastic! The meals were fabulous. The bicycle was much better than I anticipated. Overall it was a well organized trip. They kept us busy with biking and each night there was a walking tour. I highly recommend this trip and am planning another one on the same boat in the future.

The biking guides were personable, knowledgeable, well organized. The staff on board the Iris were top rate, helpful, interactive. The itinerary/biking paths followed/led were varied and quite interesting - loved biking through the villages and countryside. Most memorable: Keukenhof, biking past all the tulip fields, past the windmills, receiving tidbits of historical info from the guides.

The boat, staff, food were all excellent. Could not have asked for more. The weather took an unexpected turn which I'm sure dampered my experience, but could not be avoided. The thing that I am upset about was the itinerary and guide. Perhaps it was my inexperience, but when the trip is advertised and easy and beginner and with descriptions of biking through the countryside, I did not anticipate having to navigate busy city streets and intersections. I was anxious, fearful and frustrated, owing to my inability to do it. I had a bad bike wreck and am still (2 weeks now) unable to walk and am seeking medical attention. I also had a very negative response to our guide. We had a group of 22 and one arrogarnt, surly guide. We needed and I thought we were promised 2, at a minimum. I received very little instruction of biking traffic rules and not much help on settings for my ebike. He did not believe it was his job to teach us to ride ebikes and he didn't. Overall, a great trip. The crew and guides on the Iris were wonderful and helped to make the trip a memorable experience. Thought the tour itinerary was a great balance of Dutch culture, historic towns and places, canals, dikes and locks, windmills, and fields of flowers. Fun seeing the Netherlands on a bike. Chef was amazing and the Food was superb. Made good friends and enjoyed everyone on the bike tour. I would recommend this trip to anyone who wants to experience the beauty of springtime in Holland.

Wonderful holiday. Barge is very clean spacious and the food is outstanding. Snacks were always available after a ride and the crew is extremely accommodating. Each day our bikes were ready and off the barge, our guide was knowledgeable of the history, area and always showed us some hidden gems. We were a very large group 23 riders, I think the guide could have used another guide for assistance. The scenery speaks for itself

This was my 4th Tripsite tour and was by far the best. The Fleur was delightful: clean and beautifully decorated. The food prepared by the amazing chef, Steffie, was amazing. Each day she presented a culinary treat that was on par with the finest restaurants. Our guides, Karin and Patrick, were knowledgeable and fun. We cycled past small villages, pastures of sheep and cows, saw amazing birds, and charming canals. Of course, the tulips were gorgeous every way you turned. We became friends with the other passengers, and the camaraderie made the trip even more fun. If you take this tour, you will not be disappointed. Just be prepared for all types of weather conditions and cold temperatures. An ebike made the cycling against the wind manageable. The entire trip will be a lifetime memory for me.

The most memorable part of our trip was keukenhof gardens. It was amazing. We also liked Aalsmeer which was fascinating and the North Sea. The bike ride there was beautiful and different from any of the other biking we did. The neighborhoods and homes were beautiful as well as the forests we rode through. Then it was just a treat to be on a beach when we got there. Our week was cool windy and rainy at times. My best suggestion would be to have layers to dress in. The panniers for the bikes are very spacious to hold layers and jackets if you need to remove any. Gloves were very helpful as well as gators for our heads/necks. Another suggestion would be to be practiced up on your bikes in some crowded conditions as Amsterdam biking was brief but a little hairy. Use an Ebike if you’re out of shape. The wind was brutal.

We took this trip obviously for the tulips but what a pleasant surprise to have such an amazing crew and guide team. The meals were gourmet, the lunches amazing, snacks waiting on our return and a friendly face welcoming us back. The captain mingled with us when not driving the ship to its next location. And the guides..Wim and Brian did a fabulous job Wims knowledge is amazing. And then there were the little towns we biked through that we would have never seen any other way! A total experience that well exceeded my expectations! Bravo!

Seeing the large tulip fields in full bloom. I liked the ship the Iris. The crew were wonderful. They sure treated the riders great. I really enjoyed our bike tour guides, Ferry and Maaike. They were very knowledgeable and did a great job of guiding us. Several times, the Iris could not get to the designated stopping point for the evening due too bridges being out for maintenance. so they had to reroute us to a different location to catch the Iris. The food on the Ship was very good. Coen, the chef, did a great job of creating meals, salads, soups, and deserts. I have one suggestion. Please have the chef create more authentic Dutch cuisine. I asked Ferry about this, and he said that there is really not much concerning Dutch cuisine. He said it was mainly poor man's food. Anyway, I would have liked more of the Dutch poor man's food. Oh my, this is a difficult question as every part of our trip on the IRIS Tulip Tour was memorable! We loved the biking and felt totally immersed into the Dutch culture as we meandered through cute villages, lush green grazing pastures adorned with baby animals (lambs, ducks, goats, cows), by castles, windmills, and, of course, the spectacular, vibrant tulip fields! Our tour guides were, hands down, the best tour guides ever!! Genuinely, wonderful people who were so knowledgeable about their culture and history and eager to share! Each stop we made on our bikes whether it for a coffee break, lunch break, or a site to see, was unique and fabulous! The whole trip exceeded my expectations. The first day was incredible and each day after brought unexpected experiences. The ship was very comfortable , the food exceptional and the tour guides friendly and knowledgeable.
I’m glad I brought along enough clothes to layer. It was colder than I expected, but I was always warm.

What a wonderful way to see Holland, world famous tulips, get daily exercise, eat healthy & wonderful food, and meet new friends!
For future tour bikers I would strongly recommend an E-bike. The terrain is 100% flat but the frequent high winds (take warmer clothes than you might think you need), made it more pleasant to enjoy the surroundings on an E-bike. The guides, Brian and Wim, were fun, informative, helpful and had good chemistry between themselves, making for a great atmosphere for the week. And the food prepared by Martina was delicious. She and her staff were always accommodating with every request. It was a perfect, tulip-filled week in Holland!

The trip itself was 5 stars. One suggestion; consider finding a way to offer and/or provide non American customers the Tripsite riding vest. They would have been very useful (close to being necessary) when riding through busy urban sections. There were several occasions when I or my wife were doing “corner duty” and members of our group did not recognize us. Also very helpful for the “sweeper” to recognize, count, and verify whether or not all members of the group are ahead of them. I respect wearing the vest is not mandatory, but almost all people in the group were wearing them - and we would have absolutely done so as well if we had known the vest was available. Our emails from Tripsite did not mention or offer the riding vest. We asked our fellow riders where they obtained their vests, we thought perhaps they were provided on the boat? What a great trip. The crew was awesome. Various fresh Breakfast and lunch supplies were out every morning. Our bike guides were wonderful, very knowledgeable about the sites we saw and the regions we biked. They were quick to take care of any bike issues. We had a variety of biking skilled people on our trip. I would suggest you have experience biking before coming. The first day is in Amsterdam, downtown, lots of traffic. Being able yo get on and off the bike smoothly is a must. The E Bikes are great, they are very heavy and if you can’t hold them up or balance when at an intersection, it will be a problem. I look forward to my next bike n barge.

The crew on the Zwaantje was awesome. Captain Martin,first mate, Karin, guides Franz and Ronald, chef Frank and cabin helper, Yoke saw to our every need. Coupled with a wonderful sense of humor everything was well planned accompanied with a wealth of information about the sights and culture of the Netherlands. I was a neophyte on an e bike but with amble assistance everything went well.

Simon was an outstanding guide. He kept us abreast of the days events, weather, and sites we would be seeing. The Sarah and crew were also outstanding they were very approachable and friendly. They answered any and all questions we may have had. The food was great even though I was a little apprehensive about the two vegan dishes served on board. I would also like to give a shout out to Anuke our trip site point of contact throughout the planning phase. She answered any and all question (and we had a lot) in a timely and professional manor. We are already talking about doing another boat & bike tour we had such a great time.

Tulips. Would have been good to have had more time with tulips than an afternoon at Keukenoff. Maybe a visit to a tulip processor, or other gardens. After all, this was the "tulip" tour and we really only had one day of tulips.

You should alert your clients to the possibility of cold and rainy weather. Our guides did a good job of working around it, and I did have clothing to protect me, but it is an issue. Next to last day, we got into Zaandam too late to adequately visit the nearby attractions. Should have gotten there about two hours earlier.

Other than that, I think that all of the staff did an excellent job. Great food from Ellen; guides provided information and leadership. Boat was clean, spacious and comfortable.
